Bottom line
The periodic inventory method continues.
Account 611 (Purchases) and Account 631 (Manufacturing cost) are abolished.
Goal: no interim “parking” accounts.
What may change (our current understanding)
During the period: Post purchases directly to assets (152/156), not to 611.
At period end: Move only the confirmed amount to COGS (156 → 632) after physical count.
Manufacturing costs: Post 621/622/627 → 154 (WIP) directly, without using 631.
(Final details may change when official guidance is issued.)
Journal entries (very short)
Old: During period → 611. At close → to 156 and 632 (611 ends at zero).
New: During period → 156. At close → 156 → 632 and 621/622/627 → 154.
What to do now
Check if your company uses the periodic method (used 611/631 before).
Write new posting rules (no 611/631) in your accounting manual for periods from 2026-01-01.
Ask your software vendor if the system is ready (posting targets, cost module).
Train your team on the new steps.
Fewer accounts does not mean less work. Think direct posting instead of using a temporary account.
